About Bill Popp

Bill Popp was raised here in Anchorage and graduated from East High School, home of the Thunderbirds! He was a military dependent and moved to Elmendorf Air Force Base with his family in 1968, Bill has been a lifelong Alaskan ever since. Bill and Nicole have been married for 44 years and have a son, Daniel who works on the North Slope. Their daughter, Rachael, is married to David Mohns and they are raising their two children here in Eagle River. In 1983, a job change took Bill and Nicole to the Kenai Peninsula, where they resided for 25 years, becoming deeply engrained in the community. They returned to Anchorage in 2007 for Bill to take the position of President & CEO of the Anchorage Economic Development Corporation (AEDC) where he has served for the past 16 years. 


Prior to joining the AEDC, Bill served as special assistant in the Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor's office from 2002-2007, focusing on oil & gas, and mining policy, as well as special projects, under Mayor Dale Bagley, (R) and Mayor John Williams (D). Bill was elected to the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly and served from 1996-2002, and as President of the Assembly in 2000. Bill also worked for 25 years in the private sector as a business owner, and for small, regional and national corporations. 


Bill was project coordinator of the Ted and Catherine Stevens Center for Science and Technology Education (Challenger Learning Center of Alaska) from 1996-2000 responsible for fundraising $2.5m for the facility design, construction and program development of the Center.
